Job summary

MacLean Engineering is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer I for our North Bay, Ontario facility. The role focuses on maintaining CNC programs, creating new programs for production parts, and optimizing setups with attention to tooling, speeds, and feeds.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of CNC milling and lathe experience, a Manufacturing Technology diploma, and familiarity with Mastercam and engineering drawings. Competitive wages and benefits offered.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing Technology or related discipline required.
  • Trade Certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of CNC milling and CNC lathe programming, setup and operation.
  • Experience with handheld tools and cutting tools.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings and basic CAM software knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support CNC programs for all machining centers.
  • Create programs for producing manufactured parts for production.
  • Prepare setup sheets and review part manufacturability.
  • Select tooling, speeds, feeds and cutting depths with guidance.
  • Suggest process improvements and document outcomes.
  • Assist with fixture design and calibration under supervision.

Salary Range: $59,000.00 To $65,000.00 Annually

SALARY: $59,000 - $65,000

About the Position:

The CNC Programmer I is responsible for maintaining and supporting CNC programs for all machining centers and creating programs for producing manufactured parts for production. This position requires the following proficiencies:

  • Communicate with all levels within the organization. Display strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical writing.
  • Create setup sheets for programmed parts (Job Instructions).
  • Ability to assess part drawings to ensure parts can be manufactured within our machine capabilities. Make recommendations to engineering to improve manufacturability with some assistance. Ensure standards are being met.
  • Identify what tooling to use for applicable parts to be machined from tooling libraries. Know how to apply the proper speeds and feeds, depths of cuts to use with some guidance.
  • Make basic assessments of current machining process and recommend possible tooling, fixturing and machining procedure improvements.
  • Request tooling for purchase through supervisor.
  • Know how to add to lookup current tools in the MEMCO Tool DB and make assemblies within it. Create and/or modify Mastercam Tool libraries with supervisor guidance only.
  • Ability to choose applicable machine configuration for the job at hand. Choose machining sequences, tooling to be used, and what type of setup is needed with some guidance.
  • Assist Machine Operator with the step parts and tooling. Tooling calibration, fixture offset adjustment on machine control.
  • Review and follow daily tasks set out by Supervisor or chose programming jobs based 500 work center priority guidelines.
  • Adjust and evaluate routings/runtimes for current production support based on feedback from shop floor.
  • Evaluate parts, suggest machining process improvements with some guidance and document.
  • Able to read blueprints and determine how to interpret with some supervision.
  • Design and develop complex fixturing and document of how and where fixtures can be used or made with supervision.
About You:

The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Manufacturing Technology or a related discipline is required
  • Trade Certification is preferred
  • Three (3) + years' experience with programming, setup and operation of a CNC Mill and CNC Lathe in a Toolroom environment
  • Previous experience using handheld tools and basic knowledge of cutting tools
  • Basic knowledge of Engineering drawing standards (WI-056)
  • Computer knowledge is required (Mastercam, MS Office, or any Cam software)
  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks
