Job description

BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc. is a subsidiary of BWXT Canada Ltd. and a leading supplier of precision-machined components to the international nuclear industry. We specialize in manufacturing fuel channel and feeder components, tooling, and fueling machine spares.

We are seeking a CNC Operator to join our team in Brampton, Ontario. This is a contract position.

Job Summary:

The CNC Operator is responsible for operating one or more CNC machines, manufacturing precision-machined components with tolerances less than 0.0005”, using CNC, swiss-style lathes with live tooling, and CNC mill equipment. All work must be performed safely and purposefully.

Responsibilities:
  1. Operate CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, manual mill, manual drill press, grinders, and other power tools concurrently under limited supervision.
  2. Aim for 100% first-time throughput on setups and expedite through QC.
  3. Follow job travelers and complete sign-offs as required.
  4. Perform basic machine adjustments, such as tool offsets.
  5. Read and interpret technical drawings to verify parts.
  6. Inspect parts for defects and record results, notifying supervisors of deviations.
  7. Use measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, shadowgraphs, height gauges, indicators, thread gauges, pin gauges, and bore gauges.
  8. Meet or exceed production and quality standards, minimizing reject rates.
  9. Follow work instructions and drawings.
  10. Perform simple preventative maintenance tasks.
  11. Maintain cleanliness of machines and work area, reporting abnormalities.
  12. Use computer systems for basic transactions.
  13. Safely move components using lifting devices such as jib cranes and forklifts.
Administration:
  1. Follow all company policies and safety procedures.
  2. Wear PPE when required.
  3. Report injuries and safety issues immediately.
  4. Maintain performance standards and participate in continuous improvement.
  5. Set a positive example and cooperate with colleagues and management.
  6. Be punctual and prepared for scheduled shifts.
  7. Communicate effectively, seek feedback, and ask questions.
  8. Work any required shifts/days.
  9. Share skills and knowledge with team members.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience:
  1. High school diploma; manufacturing experience is an asset.
  2. 0–5 years of experience operating CNC mills, lathes, multi-axis, long lathes, or mill/turn machines.
  3. Ability to read engineering drawings and understand metrology and GD&T.
  4. Strong communication and problem-solving skills, adaptable team player.
  5. Ability to work independently and maintain high standards.

The salary range in Ontario is approximately $41,000 to $61,000 annually, depending on experience and skills. The total compensation may include bonuses and benefits, details of which will be provided upon offer.
