BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc. is a subsidiary of BWXT Canada Ltd. BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc. is a leading supplier of precision-machined components to the international nuclear industry. We specialize in the manufacture of fuel channel and feeder components, tooling, and fueling machine spares.


We are looking for a CNC Operator to join our team in Brampton, Ontario.


Job Summary

The CNC Operator is responsible for the operation of one or more CNC machines. The CNC Operator manufactures precision-machined components working to tolerances less than 0.0005” using CNC, swiss-style lathes with live tooling and CNC mill equipment. All work must be done purposefully with safety as the first priority.


Responsibilities
  • Operate one or more of the following machine(s) concurrently in assigned area under limited supervision: CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, manual mill, manual drill press, grinders, and other power tools.
  • Strive to hit 100% first time throughput on setups and expedited through the QC department.
  • Follow job travelers and complete sign-offs as required.
  • Perform basic machine adjustments, if necessary (ex. tool offsets).
  • Read and interpret technical drawings to verify machined parts.
  • Visually or mechanically inspect parts for defects (cracks, chips, dimension, surface finish, etc.) as part of in-process inspection; records results and notifies lead/supervisor of deviation as appropriate.
  • Comfortable to use the following for measuring and inspection: various types of micrometers and calipers, shadowgraph, height gauge, indicators, thread gauges, pin gauges, and bore gauges with master ring.
  • Understands and meets or exceeds production and quality standards; seeks to minimize reject rate.
  • Follows approved work instructions and drawings provided.
  • Required to perform some simple machine preventative maintenance functions, i.e., checking coolants, checking lubricants, and changing filters, etc.
  • Keeps machines and work area clean; notifies supervisor or maintenance when machine abnormalities occur.
  • Possess the ability to use the computer system for basic departmental transactions.
  • Safely move components with lifting devices such as jib cranes, and forklifts.

Administration
  • Follow all company policies and health and safety procedures.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times when required.
  • Report any personal workplace injuries to direct supervisor immediately.
  • Report safety issues to direct supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of performance by following established policies and procedures and participate in continuous improvement efforts by supporting and implementing new ideas.
  • Set a positive example by maintaining a respectful attitude, cooperating with co-workers, management, and internal and external customers.
  • Be a productive team member and help meet established departmental and Company goals.
  • Report to work for your regularly scheduled shifts on time and ready to work.
  • Effectively give and receive feedback and willingly ask questions and seek direction when needed.
  • May work any and all shifts/days as required.
  • Willingly accepts responsibility of sharing skills and knowledge with other employees.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge & Experience
  • High school diploma. Educational background in manufacturing or experience working in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • 0 – 5 years of experience running CNC mills, CNC lathes, multi-axis lathes, long lathes, and/or mill/turn machines.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering component drawings including an understanding of metrology and GD&T.
  • Demonstrated ability as an adaptable team player with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong ability to work independently to complete assignments promptly while maintaining the high standards required in our industry.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $41,000 and $61,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
