Job description

Kennametal is seeking talented machinists and programmers looking to transition their career off the floor into a professional sales role. If you are currently working as a machinist or have previous hands-on machining and CNC programming experience, we would be very interested in speaking with you!

This position is responsible for driving metal-cutting tool sales growth with new and established customers, both direct and indirect, or new and established Machine Tool customers by managing customer relationships, providing technical direction/support, and increasing productivity for our customers. It combines technical knowledge and sales skills to achieve sales targets, build a strong territory presence, and develop a pipeline. The role partners with internal sales and support professionals to support customer initiatives and technical needs. Sales and Application Specialists work on unique challenges related to CNC machining, milling, and lathe applications.

The role is based from a home office within the assigned territory, with 80% or more of the week spent in the field at customer locations. The territory is mainly within commuting distance, with minimal overnight travel (approximately 10% or less). A company vehicle is provided, along with a competitive compensation package including a base salary, performance-based bonus, and benefits starting day one.

Key Job Responsibilities
  1. Meet or exceed revenue targets by:
  2. Providing metal cutting solutions by understanding current and future market trends to meet customer needs and objectives professionally.
  3. Generating, qualifying, and managing sales leads, prospects, and new customer accounts.
  4. Managing the complete sales process, including prospecting, qualification, sales meetings, product demos, pricing, negotiations, and sourcing.
  5. Developing and executing strategic territory plans to meet revenue goals, focusing on new product sales.
  6. Providing timely responses to pre-sales technical and commercial queries.
  7. Maintaining customer and project records in CRM to ensure a healthy sales pipeline.
  8. Collaborating with internal teams such as Application Engineers, Channel Partners, and Inside Sales to enhance customer experience.
  9. Performing online and onsite demonstrations tailored to customer needs.
  10. Conducting workshops, webinars, and events within the territory.
  11. Representing Kennametal at tradeshows, conferences, and other events.
  12. Delivering cost savings through analysis and recommendations supporting customer needs via tooling and testing.
  13. Preparing and presenting reports on progress, status, and forecasts.
Requirements
  • Technical degree or degree in Business, Manufacturing, or Engineering preferred.
  • 3+ years of CNC machining industry experience; 1-2 years of technical sales or application experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and French required.
  • Proficient in product knowledge, applications, troubleshooting, and tailoring solutions to customer needs.
  • Strong understanding of industry dynamics and aligning product solutions accordingly.
  • Skilled in sales techniques, objection handling, and closing strategies, adaptable to customer types.
  • Ability to execute strategic sales plans independently and contribute to strategy development.
  • Strong critical thinking, presentation, and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for explaining technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Customer-focused with a passion for problem-solving and service excellence.
  • Detail-oriented for contract review and project discussions.
