Job description

Canada Life is hiring a Manager, Cloud FinOps to support cloud financial operations across its Azure, AWS, and GCP environments. This is an individual-contributor role with no direct people management responsibilities, and it is focused on providing leadership through subject-matter expertise, influence, governance, and cross-functional partnership.

The role works closely with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Application, Technology, and Procurement teams to improve financial management, strengthen cost control, and support business growth and profitability objectives. A key part of the position is helping to build and mature the company’s AI FinOps capability as AI adoption expands.

In addition to cloud cost management and reporting, this position supports financial transparency, attribution, forecasting, and optimisation for cloud and AI consumption. The role is expected to develop and improve processes, controls, and reporting that help stakeholders understand and manage spend more effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyse cloud financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities across Azure, AWS, and GCP environments.
  • Oversee cloud cost management and optimisation efforts to improve resource efficiency and financial performance.
  • Manage contractual cloud commitments and partner/project credits, including consumption tracking and commitment burn-down projections.
  • Support Finance and cloud consumers with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
  • Build and maintain cost-allocation and chargeback/show-back models to support billing accuracy, equitable recovery, and transparency.
  • Develop cloud cost-management policies and controls to support governance.
  • Produce recurring and ad hoc reports and dashboards covering cloud consumption, financial performance, optimisation opportunities, and commitment performance.
  • Evaluate and maintain tooling, automation, and savings mechanisms for cloud cost management and optimisation.
  • Work with Procurement on multi-cloud marketplace activity to improve commercial value, pricing, and terms.
  • Promote FinOps awareness through education, training, learning sessions, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and mature AI FinOps practices for Cloud AI and AI-enabled services.
  • Establish AI cost transparency and structured cost-attribution practices across applications, products, business units, cost centres, owners, and consumers.
  • Build AI cost-optimisation capabilities while balancing cost, performance, and business requirements.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning for Cloud AI consumption.
  • Develop reporting for AI and Tokenomics, extending visibility beyond token and model spend to include the broader AI technology stack, including SaaS AI components.
  • Partner with AI, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and business stakeholders to establish financial accountability and governance for AI consumption.
  • Support strategic AI investment decisions with financial insights and maintain day-to-day monitoring, allocation, forecasting, and optimisation practices.
  • Continuously improve AI FinOps processes, metrics, and reporting within the broader Cloud FinOps operating model.
