Working alongside the FinOps team members, Manager, Cloud FinOps will be responsible for overseeing cloud financial operations, ensuring efficient financial management, optimizing cost-management strategies and driving financial performance. The role works closely with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Application and Technology teams to develop and implement financial processes that support Canada Life's growth and profitability goals.

As Canada Life's adoption of AI continues to grow, the role will also help establish and mature our AI FinOps capabilities, developing and managing the practices required for AI cost transparency, attribution and optimisation while supporting both the strategic and tactical financial management of our growing Cloud AI estate.

What you will do:

  • Oversee cloud cost-management and optimization activities to drive efficient utilization of cloud resources.
  • Drive the implementation and monitoring of contractual cloud commitments and partner/project credits, including reporting and projections of consumption and commitment burn-down.
  • Support cloud consumers and Finance with budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling.
  • Implement and manage cost-allocation and chargeback/show-back models, supporting accurate billing, equitable recovery and financial transparency.
  • Develop and maintain cloud cost-management policies and controls supporting appropriate financial and operational governance.
  • Produce recurring and ad-hoc reporting and dashboards covering cloud consumption, financial performance, optimisation opportunities and commitment performance.
  • Evaluate and maintain tooling, automation and savings mechanisms supporting cloud cost management, monitoring and optimisation.
  • Partner with Procurement on multi-cloud Marketplace activity and opportunities to maximise commercial value, pricing and terms associated with cloud consumption.
  • Champion FinOps awareness and adoption through education, learning sessions, training and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and mature Canada Life's AI FinOps practice, extending established FinOps principles and financial disciplines to Cloud AI and AI-enabled services.
  • Establish AI cost transparency, providing stakeholders with clear visibility into AI consumption and its associated financial drivers across the AI technology stack.
  • Develop structured AI cost-attribution practices, enabling AI spend to be associated with appropriate applications, products, business units, cost centres, owners and consumers and supporting future chargeback/show-back requirements. Canada Life's current AI reporting direction explicitly calls for structured attribution and expansion beyond token/model spend.
  • Develop AI cost-optimization capabilities, identifying opportunities to improve the financial efficiency of AI workloads and services while balancing cost, performance and business requirements.
  • Support forecasting, budgeting and financial planning for Cloud AI consumption, improving predictability as AI adoption and utilisation scale.
  • Develop financial reporting for AI and Tokenomics, evolving visibility beyond token and model spend toward a broader view of the AI technology stack, including SaaS AI components.
  • Partner with AI, Engineering, Finance, Procurement and business stakeholders to establish appropriate accountability and financial governance around AI consumption.
  • Support strategic AI investment decisions with financial insights, while also driving the tactical practices needed to monitor, allocate, forecast and optimise day-to-day AI consumption.
  • Develop and continuously improve AI FinOps processes, measures and reporting, integrating them into the broader Cloud FinOps operating model as capabilities mature.
What you'll bring:
  • 5+ years of experience in FinOps with focus on AI FinOps in a large, complex organization.

  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure and modern cloud technologies in complex enterprise environments.
  • Understanding of emerging AI consumption and cost-management concepts, with an ability to develop financial-management practices as AI platforms, commercial models and usage patterns evolve.
