Overview

Contract: 4 months with possibility of extension to a total term of 1 year and potential conversion to full-time employment. Location: Hybrid – 44 King Street W, 8th Floor; meetings on an ad hoc basis (approx. every 2 weeks on Wednesdays); strong preference for candidates in the GTA. Hiring Manager: Director, DevOps and Cloud Engineering. Max BNS rate: 100/hr; Rate: $73/hr Inc (up to $84/hr).

Story Behind the Need and Project: Cloud Engineering – main teams responsible for creating platform (Kubernetes) and all connections for logging, monitoring, chargeback, and establishing Cloud resource processes for different projects; creating processes for automating releases; leading the creation and management of new resources for the Bank; some teams handle CICD processes, security, and auditable workflows from development/non-prod to production. The Bank is modernizing development practices and tools, with a major focus on public cloud adoption and supporting platform technologies for development and operations in the cloud.

Candidate Value Proposition: The successful candidate will gain exposure to the latest technologies, grow GCP skillsets, and gain visibility with senior stakeholders and different business groups.

Responsibilities
  • Manage, develop, and maintain cloud platforms, services, and components to enable safe enterprise-wide use of public cloud offerings.
  • Provide technical ownership/leadership of a component of a larger product.
  • Manage, implement, and refactor code (Go, Python, etc.).
  • Ensure software, programs, and applications meet high availability, integrity, security, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and architects on breaking down, scoping, and estimating tasks.
  • Work with application teams for successful onboarding onto the Platform.
  • Participate in planning and retrospective sessions, stand-ups, etc.
  • Build and operate highly available and scalable software and infrastructure.
  • Daily stand-up with the team in an Agile framework, 2-week sprints, tracking work in Kanban; contribute to roadmap tasks with occasional deployments.
Qualifications
  • Must Have: 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cloud Environments such as GCP, AWS, Azure, etc.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on cloud operations and administration experience with GCP.
  • 3+ years of technical experience in Infrastructure Operations, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering Operations.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with development/scripting languages, container technologies, config management tools, and CI/CD.
  • Nice-To-Have: Unix administration skills.
  • DevOps experience.
  • GCE experience.
  • Hands-on experience with virtualized environments (VMWare, Virtual Servers).
Soft Skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Passion for driving teams toward high performance and quality craftsmanship.
  • Ability to communicate with internal stakeholders on a call.
Education

Bachelor (equivalent or higher) degree in computer science or engineering/mathematics discipline.

Candidate Profile

Best vs. Average Candidate: Focus on strong GCP/GCE experience; DevOps/Cloud/Unix operations background.
