Job summary

Element Fleet Management in Toronto is seeking a Cloud Database Administrator to own the operational health of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, plus Snowflake. You will lead database migrations from on-prem to cloud, monitor performance, ensure security and cost efficiency, and collaborate with managed services and internal teams to deliver reliable data platforms.

Requirements include a Bachelor's in CS or related field and 5–8 years' DBA experience; AWS RDS and Snowflake

• 5-8 years of experience in a Database Administrator or Database Engineer role.
• Hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, in cloud or managed platforms.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day administration and health of MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL on Amazon RDS.
• Administer and support Snowflake environments, including performance monitoring and access control.
• Serve as technical point of contact for MSPs, professional services, and internal teams.
• Plan upgrades, storage scaling, and capacity planning for RDS and Snowflake.
• Maintain runbooks, document standards, and identify risks and cost optimization opportunities.

About the Role

We're looking for a collaborative and technically strong professional to join our team as Cloud Database Administrator (AWS RDS, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, Snowflake). In this role, you will support the ongoing operation and migration of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases as they transition from on-premises environments to AWS EC2 and Amazon RDS. You will own the operational health, performance, security, and cost efficiency of enterprise database platforms. The expected result is stable, well-governed Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases on Amazon RDS, along with reliable Snowflake data platform operations.

What You'll Do

• Own day-to-day administration and operational health of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases running on Amazon RDS, including monitoring, performance tuning, backup and restore validation, patching coordination, and incident response.
• Administer and support Snowflake environments, including performance monitoring, workload management, role and access control, data usage governance, and cost awareness.
• Serve on the internal database team for cloud platforms, acting as technical point of contact for managed service providers, professional services, and internal application teams.
• Plan and execute database lifecycle activities such as minor and major version upgrades, parameter group changes, storage scaling, and capacity planning for RDS and Snowflake platforms.
• Establish and maintain operational standards, documentation, and runbooks; proactively identify risks, optimization opportunities, and improvements to database reliability, security, and cost efficiency.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5-8 years of experience in a Database Administrator or Database Engineer role supporting production environments.
• Hands-on experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL, with at least part of that experience in cloud or managed database platforms.
• Experience supporting Amazon RDS for SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on experience administering Snowflake, including performance monitoring and access management.
• Experience operating databases in partnership with vendors, managed services, or professional services teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience transitioning responsibilities from outsourced DBAs to internal teams.
• AWS certifications (Associate level or higher).
• Snowflake certification or formal Snowflake training.
• Experience supporting hybrid environments during cloud transitions.

Current Location : Toronto

The hiring base salary range for this position is $99,200 - $136,400 annually. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual's knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. Please note that the disclosed salary range is solely for candidates hired to perform work within this geographic location. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.
