Job summary

FinOps Weekly in Toronto seeks a Data Architect to lead enterprise database migration and modernization across applications. You will design target cloud/hybrid architectures and guide migrations from legacy RDBMS to cloud-native data services, collaborating with DevOps, security, and stakeholders for optimal outcomes.

You will drive data platform modernization, enforce governance, and mentor database/cloud engineers while aligning technical decisions with business goals.

Qualifications

• 12+ years IT experience with 7–10+ years in database architecture and migration roles.
• Proven experience leading enterprise-scale database migration and modernization programs.
• Strong hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP data platforms.
• Experience at Senior, Lead, or Principal Architect level.
• Deep understanding of relational, NoSQL, and cloud-native databases.

Responsibilities

• Own and define enterprise database migration and modernization strategies across application portfolios.
• Lead database transformation initiatives including re-host, re-platform, re-architect, and cloud-native redesign approaches.
• Design target-state cloud and hybrid database architectures.
• Assess legacy databases and dependencies (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
• Lead modernization initiatives from traditional RDBMS to managed PaaS and cloud-native data services.
• Define reference architectures, migration patterns, and standards for databases.
• Design high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and resilience strategies.
• Partner with application, DevOps, and security teams to embed database best practices.
• Drive performance optimization, scalability, and cost optimization (FinOps).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to database and cloud engineers.
• Engage senior stakeholders to align data architecture with business outcomes.
