Job Description

Kinark has introduced a benefit that allows eligible employees to work partially or fully remotely. This role is assessed as a Roamer position requiring minimal days in the office (2 days per week) unless business demands require. The role is also eligible for a compressed work week.

The Clinical Therapist is an essential part of a busy, dynamic, and growing clinical program at Kinark Child and Family Services, Community Based Child and Youth Mental Health program in Durham. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Clinical Therapist will liaise with internal and external collaterals to provide clinical services. Responsibilities include comprehensive clinical assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing individual, family, and group therapy to high-risk children, youth, and families in office-based and community settings. The position requires working some evenings based on client needs. The role is covered by the Communications Workers of America, Local 30248.

Internal applicants will be considered first.

Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Complete initial comprehensive assessments considering multiple mental health issues from a trauma-informed perspective.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans.
  • Use commitment strategies to engage clients and assess readiness and stage of change.
  • Develop treatment plans with input from collateral sources and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Modify treatment approaches to support clients with neurodiverse or culturally diverse needs and changes in status.
  • Provide interventions with outcomes achieved through evidence-based practices, with ongoing impact monitoring.
  • Focus on developing clients' pro-social behaviors and self-regulation of mental health symptoms and related behaviors.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with policies, standards, and legislation.
  • Collaborate with team members and participate in interagency meetings.

Qualifications :

  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work or a related health discipline with at least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree and extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
  • Must be eligible to perform Psychotherapy as defined by law.
  • Experience in mental health systems is required.
  • Strong clinical assessment, formulation, and treatment planning skills are essential.
  • Training in CBT and DBT is an asset.
  • Experience with diverse clinical populations, including children and adolescents with challenging issues.
  • Advanced group skills with children and parents are preferred.
  • Computer skills and cultural competence are assets.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and willingness to obtain appropriate insurance are required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Pre-Employment Medical are required.
  • Bilingual English / French candidates will be given special consideration.
