$19.62 - $26.49

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL SUMMARY
Ensures the appropriate labeling and timely delivery of lab specimens to the correct department within the hospital. Investigates missing and/or inappropriately labeled specimens. Answers phone, greets patients, and reports results to physicians and nursing staff. Provides coverage for general administrative duties, such as filing and mail delivery as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Accessions specimens into computer system.
  • Enters patient and billing information into the Omega computer system for outpatient specimens.
  • Triages specimen processing according to grossing priority. Resolves specimen discrepancies in a timely manner, including contacting physicians and physician offices for information.
  • Cleans and stocks the gross room, including running the dishwasher and stocking the gross stations. Supplies the gross room with liquid nitrogen. Provides the gross room personnel with supplies necessary to perform ancillary studies. Maintains awareness of when such studies are required.
  • Monitors refrigerator/freezer temperatures. Disposes of 'red bag trash' from gross room.
  • Performs daily maintenance of frozen section area, including changing staining solutions, taking temperatures of refrigerator and cryostats, stocking supplies, cleaning work area, and scheduled vacuuming of cryostats. Completes the corresponding documentation of procedures on the Frozen Section Room QA sheet.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma and 1 year of related experience required
  • 2 years of college education leading to an associate degree preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
