Role Responsibilities:
Clinical Support Workers collect and prepare materials and clinical specimens for analysis, ensuring the safe disposal of clinical waste. They register patient information onto the Laboratory Information System or manual systems. They work within Specimen Reception, handle telephone queries from staff and external agencies, assist Biomedical Scientists, and perform specific laboratory tests as required.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have 3 Highers at Grade C or above (including Chemistry or Biology and Maths), SVQ3 in a relevant science subject, or an equivalent qualification. Alternatively, completion of a modern apprenticeship in life sciences or equivalent accredited education is acceptable. All applicants must achieve mandatory induction standards for healthcare support workers in Scotland and adhere to the code of conduct throughout employment.
About the Laboratory:
The Diagnostic Clinical Microbiology Service is based at two sites: Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The laboratories offer comprehensive Microbiology services, including pediatric and cystic fibrosis microbiology, processing around 400,000 specimens annually. The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital laboratory is equipped with advanced microbiology technology and holds UKAS accreditation for ISO 15189 standards.
