Qualifications

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to cover the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist role for the Acute Stroke Unit/Neuro Outliers team at North Middlesex Hospital. This is a 9-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.

This position is suitable for Specialist Neuro Band 7 Physiotherapists or existing Band 8a Neuro therapists interested in this role.

The North Middlesex Hospital is part of the Royal Free London group and has an Acute Stroke Unit (ASU). The team also covers Stroke and Neuro outliers across the hospital.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Clinical Lead ASU/Neuro OT, managing the ASU and Stroke team, providing clinical specialist input and operational support. As an 8a, the post holder would also deputise for the Head of Physiotherapy when needed.

Main duties of the job
  • Manage the multi-professional therapy and physiotherapy input to the Acute Stroke Unit Service and Neuro-Outlier service at NMUH.
  • Engage in planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating the service, including research, audit, and policy development.
  • Act as Clinical Lead for Neurorehabilitation Trust-wide and within the ASU, focusing on Medical Brain Injury (MBI) and neuro-outliers.
  • Perform expert physiotherapy assessments and develop management plans for patients with complex neurological and neuromuscular conditions, working autonomously.
  • Provide specialist advice to physiotherapy colleagues and influence practice through research and postgraduate activities.
  • Initiate specialist practices such as outpatient clinics or spasticity management clinics, following protocols or training.
  • Educate and train staff, students, and other healthcare professionals in neuro-rehabilitation management.

Job responsibilities
  • Manage physiotherapy and multi-professional input to the Acute Stroke and Neuro-Outlier services.
  • Lead the development of physiotherapy and multi-professional practice within NMUH and across the Trust.
  • Perform expert assessments and develop management plans for complex neurological patients.
  • Provide advice and support to healthcare professionals, patients, and carers.
  • Contribute to research, audit, and policy development in neuro-rehabilitation.
  • Initiate specialist clinics and interventions as per protocols.
  • Train and supervise staff and students in neuro-rehabilitation management.
  • As a non-medical prescriber, manage neuropathic pain and spasticity, using advanced assessment and decision-making skills.

Education & professional Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy

Experience

Salary: £59,490 to £66,239 per year, inclusive of Outer London Weighting.
