RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position Summary
Department / Research Program: Department / Research Program: Cancer Research Program (CRP)
The candidate will contribute to the Quebec Pancreas Cancer Study (QPCS) as well as affiliate consortia and clinical trial studies, including the Marathon of Hope Cancer Center Network (MOHCCN), which brings together leading cancer centres across Canada to collaborate on precision medicine to benefit cancer patients and drive innovation. The QPCS was established in 2011 as a familial patient registry for pancreatic cancer and related clinical conditions. Clinic-based activities of the QPCS include genetic counseling and testing in real-time for patients with a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. The key research aims of the QPCS are to characterize the genetic susceptibility of pancreatic cancer, identify early detection biomarkers and modifiable risks factors for pancreatic cancer, and develop clinical surveillance protocols for individuals at high risk for developing pancreatic cancer.
General Duties
- Managing recruitment into the MOHCCN project, including participant selection, clinical data review and management, and tissue sample coordination with research laboratory team.
- Managing recruitment into the QPCS patient registry at the MUHC site, including patient enrollment, biospecimen collection and data entry.
- Facilitating genetic testing for patients with pancreatic cancer enrolled in the study in collaboration with the senior genetic counsellor.
- Prescreening to identify patients eligible to participate in the QPCS and its affiliate studies.
- Enrolment of eligible patients into the QPCS and its affiliate studies, including obtaining family histories and building pedigrees.
- Navigating patients through genetic testing and study participation requirements by scheduling and coordinating clinical research appointments, genetic testing and biospecimen collections.
- Completing participant enrolment by 1) obtaining authorization for medical records as well as access to archived biospecimens and 2) sending requests for medical records and/or archival biospecimen acquisitions.
- Data entry and management of online study databases.
- Assisting with returning of genetic testing results to patients and treating physicians.

Education / Experience
Education: Diploma of College Studies (DEC)
Field of Study: health sciences or biological sciences, with background preparation in human/cancer genetics.
Other education considered an asset for this position: Training in a clinical setting, training in genetics, training or experience in cancer research.
Work Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting (patient-oriented/clinical research).
Required Skills
- Excellent French and English, spoken and written,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
- Ability to work independently and with teams with minimum supervision,
- Experience with clinical research electronic data capture applications is an asset.
Additional information
Status: Temporary, part-time (21 hours)
Pay Scale: $24.40 - $45.29/hour. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Variable Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
