Clinical Pharmacist

BC Cancer
Prince George, BC

BC Cancer Clinical Pharmacists are integral members of multidisciplinary teams supporting cancer treatment and care across British Columbia. This rewarding pharmacy specialty combines direct patient care, collaboration with pharmacists across the provincial network, and care planning. BC Cancer's approach includes drug therapy and alternative and complementary treatments.

BC Cancer is a leader in clinical care and research. Our Regional Cancer Centres offer meaningful work within diverse, innovative teams in Victoria, Vancouver, Surrey, Abbotsford, Kelowna, and Prince George.

The Clinical Pharmacist mainly performs procedures within a specialized oncology practice, including customizing drug therapy based on patient data, educating healthcare professionals and patients, and supervising pharmacy students and residents. They also prepare and dispense medications and pharmaceuticals.

What you'll do
  1. Individualize drug therapy by reviewing patient charts, assessing responses, collaborating with healthcare providers, and developing therapeutic plans.
  2. Engage with patients and healthcare teams to ensure appropriate medication use, develop discharge and outpatient medication plans, and monitor patient adherence and understanding.
  3. Prepare and dispense medications, ensuring compliance with legislation.
  4. Provide drug information verbally and in writing to healthcare professionals and patients.
  5. Assist with securing financial support for medications through programs like compassionate release or emergency aid.
  6. Mentor pharmacy students and residents.
What you bring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and current registration as a Licensed Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
  • Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program and at least one year of recent relevant experience, or equivalent education, training, and experience.

You have:

  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques, cytotoxic drug handling, drug information strategies, and individualized therapy approaches.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties and operate related equipment.
  • Skills in CPR techniques.
  • Commitment to Indigenous reconciliation and cultural safety, with knowledge of related reports and legislation.
