Position Overview

At Roche/Genentech Pharma Product Development Global Clinical Operations (PDG), we aim to transform drug development and deliver 20 innovative medicines by 2029 that address high-burden diseases. We seek a Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader to oversee our Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism (CVRM) Portfolio. This senior leadership role is responsible for clinical operations strategy, execution, and enterprise collaboration.

We conduct global clinical trials across various therapeutic areas, analyze results, monitor safety, and collaborate with regulatory agencies. Our main focus areas include Oncology, Hematology, Neurology, Immunology, Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism. We have development centers in Basel, South San Francisco, Welwyn Garden City, Mississauga, and Shanghai, among others.

The Opportunity

The CVRM Clinical Operations Therapeutic Area Leader at Roche/Genentech is accountable for the strategy and delivery of the CVRM portfolio programs and studies. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and Evolve CVRM Portfolio Strategy: Responsible for the overall clinical operations strategy, continuously refining it to align with the Clinical Development Plan (CDP) and corporate strategy.
  2. Oversight and Risk Management: Monitor portfolio status, identify risks proactively, and implement mitigation strategies for seamless trial execution.
  3. Stakeholder Collaboration: Drive alignment among internal teams and external partners, providing strategic operational leadership.
  4. Operational Leadership and Innovation: Use analytics to enhance efficiency, quality, and budget management; foster innovation and patient-centric research.
  5. Representation and Influence: Act as the PDG representative in CVRM, building relationships with senior leaders, health authorities, patient groups, and vendors.
  6. Leadership and Team Development: Lead a matrixed team of approximately 150 employees, including 10-12 direct reports, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion.
  7. Enterprise Leadership: Contribute as a member of the Portfolio Delivery Leadership Team, advancing broader organizational goals.
  8. People Management: Manage performance, engagement, and administrative responsibilities to ensure effective team operations.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of pharmaceutical clinical operations experience, including 10+ years in global strategy leadership. Additional commercial experience is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolic diseases and clinical trial development.
  • Understanding of international pharma clinical development landscapes.
  • Proven success in strategy development, data-driven decision-making, and expanding access to underserved populations.
  • Experience managing large, matrixed organizations and developing high-performing teams.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages advantageous. Willingness to travel internationally.
Location and Compensation

This role can be based in Basel, Switzerland; South San Francisco, USA; Welwyn, England; or Mississauga, Canada. Ongoing presence at the site is expected. Relocation benefits are available. The salary range in California is $227,600 - $422,600, with potential bonuses and benefits.
