This is a Temporary Full-Time Position for 12 Months
The Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Psychiatry provides Psychiatric Support to a broad group of patient populations across the organization including General Internal Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Emergency Department, Women’s and Infants and the Intensive Care Unit.
We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with a mental health focus to support our Psychiatry Consultation Liaison (C/L) Service. You will function in an expanded nursing role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill and knowledge to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage the psychiatric issues related to acute/chronic illness and wellness promotion. The CNS will work within a team which includes Psychiatrists, Psychiatry Residents, Nurses, Administrative Assistants, Allied Health Professionals and a range of Medical Specialists to develop enhanced processes, and quality improvement initiatives to aid in the care of hospitalized patients with comorbid psychiatric diagnoses.
The CNS – C/L Psychiatry will provide leadership in the development and implementation of organizational programs to enrich patient care at the medical/psychiatric interface. The CNS also participates actively in the Sinai Health Safe Patients/Safe Staff program, with focus on patient and staff safety through the implementation of best practices in caring for patients with challenging behaviours due to delirium, dementia, and severe and persistent mental illness. Current additional priorities include ongoing implementation of crisis intervention education and training, best practices in delirium care, management of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), and least restraint optimization.
