The salary range for this position is CAD $54.16/Hr. - CAD $77.86/Hr.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced critical care nurse (PACU or ICU) who is passionate about advancing surgical care excellence and optimizing patient recovery to advance their career with our growing team.

As the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – PACU, you will use your PACU and/or ICU nursing experience to lead and shape clinical practices across multiple care settings.

This exciting, one-of-a-kind role spans several key care areas, including the Post-Anesthesia Care Units (PACU) and Surgical High Acuity Unit (HAU) at St. Paul’s Hospital and Mount St. Joseph Hospital in Vancouver.

As the CNS, PACU, you will also play a pivotal role in the transition to the Anesthetic Care Unit at the New St. Paul’s Hospital, contributing to the development of best practices in post-operative patient care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead excellence in patient care by ensuring the implementation of best practices in post-operative recovery and patient safety.
  • Provide guidance, support, and professional development for nursing staff across post-operative and critical care settings. Develop and implement education initiatives to enhance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to research projects aimed at optimizing PACU care and enhancing clinical practices.
  • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other health care professionals to promote coordinated, efficient, and compassionate care.
  • Act as a clinical resource to staff and interdisciplinary team members, ensuring the highest standards of care in all aspects of post-operative patient management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be registered in good standing with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Must have a Masters Degree in Nursing.
  • A minimum of five years of nursing experience, with at least three years in critical care nursing.
  • Proven ability to assess, diagnose, and manage complex clinical issues in the PACU/HAU, with deep expertise in both post-anesthesia and critical care.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in mentoring, educating, and developing nursing staff.
  • Experience in leading quality improvement initiatives and translating research into clinical practice to enhance patient care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
