Reporting operationally to the Director, Medicine, Perinatal and Children’s Health, and professionally to the Director, Professional Practice, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Cardiac Care, is responsible for providing leadership and direction in Cardiac Care, as well as expert advice in nursing, resource planning, program and health system improvement, research, and professional development. The CNS receives direction and reports on professional matters to the Director, Professional Practice. They work with colleagues to achieve excellence in service delivery and patient care, act as a liaison between hospitals and community programs to facilitate care integration, and lead in planning, developing, and implementing clinical policies and programs to improve patient care and service quality.
The CNS is responsible for maintaining specialty-specific standards of practice, staying current with nursing literature, and promoting research and theory-based autonomous nursing practice. They lead the advancement of nursing practice in Cardiac Care through education, communication, research, and support for quality and utilization initiatives. The CNS provides leadership and expert consultation to team members, healthcare staff, patients, families, and significant others. They work collaboratively with Clinical Managers, Medical Directors, Clinical Educators, Nurse Clinicians, staff nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.
The starting salary ranges from approximately $106,026 to $132,533, based on education, training, experience, and comparable positions.
University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is the largest acute care facility in Northern Health (268 beds). It is the hub for specialized health services, including a new cancer center for Northern BC, and provides undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program, run by UBC and UNBC.
