Reporting operationally to the Director, Medicine, Perinatal and Children’s Health, and professionally to the Director, Professional Practice, the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Cardiac Care, is responsible for providing leadership and direction in Cardiac Care, as well as expert advice in nursing, resource planning, program and health system improvement, research, and professional development. The CNS receives direction and reports on professional matters to the Director, Professional Practice. Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve excellence in service delivery and patient care. Acts as a liaison between hospitals and community programs to facilitate care integration across the continuum. Leads in planning, developing, and implementing clinical policies and programs aimed at improving patient care and service quality. Ensures specialty-specific standards of practice are maintained, stays current with nursing literature, and promotes research and theory-based autonomous nursing practice. Advances nursing practice in Cardiac Care through education, communication, research, and support for quality and utilization initiatives. Provides leadership and expert consultation to team members, healthcare staff, patients, families, and significant others. Collaborates with Clinical Managers, Medical Directors, Educators, Nurse Clinicians, staff nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Starting salary ranges from approximately $106,026 to $132,533, based on education, training, experience, and comparable positions.

University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) is the largest acute care facility (268 beds) in Northern Health, serving as a hub for specialized health services, including a new cancer center. It provides undergraduate physician training through the Northern Medical Program (UBC and UNBC) and is a key clinical education site for nursing and health sciences students from various institutions.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum of five (5) years recent related experience in a healthcare setting, focusing on cardiac care and in a progressive leadership role.
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification in cardiac care or membership in related provincial, national, or international professional associations preferred.
