Job description

Sinai Health is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Wound Care to join our Professional Practice Nursing team.

The CNS role involves utilizing advanced nursing knowledge to meet the health needs of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing and synthesizing nursing knowledge;
  • Applying nursing theory and research;
  • Leading and advancing nursing practice, providing leadership, and promoting excellence in patient-centered clinical care in collaboration with patients, families, and interprofessional teams (CNA 2008).

The CNS in Wound Care will serve as a hospital-wide clinical resource, offering expert consultation, assessment, education, and care planning for complex wounds, ostomies, and continence issues. The role includes leadership, mentorship, education, and supporting evidence-based practice, standards development, and quality initiatives to enhance safe, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients with complex wounds and ostomies.
  • Develop strategies to improve wound and ostomy care outcomes.
  • Coordinate and lead training programs for patients' families and caregivers.
  • Provide clinical consultation and support regarding wound and ostomy issues.

System Leadership:

  • Facilitate knowledge translation to support care in complex situations;
  • Mentor staff to meet standards of care for wound and ostomy patients;
  • Lead program planning, evaluation, and dissemination of knowledge;
  • Engage in academic and professional activities to promote wound and ostomy nursing.

Evaluation and Research:

  • Critique and utilize evidence to improve practice and safety;
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives;
  • Develop and evaluate wound and ostomy programs;
  • Collaborate on research projects to enhance care.

Job Type: Temporary Full Time (up to 9 months)

Requirements:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Master's degree in nursing or related field;
  • Specialty certification in wound care;
  • 3-5 years of clinical wound care experience;

Preferred:

  • Membership in RNAO;
  • CNS or advanced practice nurse experience;
  • Academic appointment eligibility.
