Overview

The Clinical Nurse Manager, working with Nurse Managers, is accountable for supervising nursing services for specific units to ensure safe, effective, and efficient care. This role is a key part of the Management Team, responsible for assigning, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for the assigned units. Performance is measured based on objective criteria, including staff competence and ability maximization.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate unit goals, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  2. Oversee activities and duties of unit staff to achieve quality results, patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, and budget compliance.
  3. Incorporate total quality management into unit operations.
  4. Assign work to staff, ensuring patient care objectives are met.
  5. Plan staff assignments based on staff competency, education, and training needs.
  6. Facilitate effective communication among staff, physicians, and other community employees.
  7. Maintain proficiency with relevant technologies to inform recommendations on new services and equipment.
  8. Manage personnel including interviewing, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating staff as needed, following community policies.
  9. Ensure staff receive proper orientation and ongoing in-service training for licensure or certification maintenance.
  10. Maintain personnel records and related documentation.
  11. Develop work schedules, including managing leave and time off.
  12. Supervise labor relations activities within the unit.
  13. Assist in budget preparation, reporting, and other administrative tasks.
  14. Participate in management meetings and policy formulation.
  15. Serve as a clinical resource and role model, performing direct patient care when necessary.
  16. Oversee and assist in patient care delivery, including emergency response, staff training, equipment testing, and ensuring timely patient care.
  17. Perform or assist with clinical treatments and procedures requiring expert judgment.
  18. Coordinate with Galen School of Nursing for clinical rotations and serve as a clinical nurse educator.
  19. Oversee the nurse extern program.
  20. Establish orientation programs for new nursing staff.
  21. Collaborate on educational opportunities based on staff needs and policies.
Qualifications

Graduation from an approved nursing school with a current, non-limited license in the assigned state. A BS or MSN is preferred. A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required, with five (5) years preferred, demonstrating management potential and proficient clinical skills.
