Responsibilities

  • Manage human resources effectively: collaborate with Staffing Office to ensure coverage; hire staff; manage staff performance; ensure compliance with health and safety regulations; provide necessary resources.
  • Work with Ambulatory Care leadership to monitor outcomes and safety indicators; advance evidence-based clinical practice and meet goals.
  • Implement departmental strategies and follow up on incident reports; improve staff and patient safety.
  • Manage budgets and expenses; collaborate with Operations Director and Medical Directors on goals.
  • Monitor clinical, operational, quality and fiscal indicators; develop departmental strategies to improve them.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration to deliver care; create and monitor metrics for clinical and admin teams.
  • Collaborate with leadership, staff and physicians across departments for effective patient care delivery.
  • Represent Ambulatory Care on hospital committees and liaise with external agencies to build regional relationships.
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives; ensure staff training and safe service delivery.
  • Maintain knowledge of EHR systems (Epic) and support continuous learning.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager is responsible for the implementation of safe, effective and efficient service delivery in the Ambulatory Care department which includes both surgical and medical sub-specialty clinics. The manager effectively manages health human resources, financial and physical resources, and organizational and clinical risk. The Manager is a member of Ambulatory Care’s Patient Care Leadership Team (PCLT). In addition, the Manager works in collaboration with other departments and key players to ensure that organizational strategies are achieved. The Manager is expected to have a significant focus on quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes, and they will be involved in continuous quality improvement utilizing Lean and other methodologies as required. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage human resources effectively which includes:
    • Work in collaboration with the Staffing Office to ensure adequate coverage of staff to provide quality service to patients and families in the Ambulatory Care department.
    • Hire staff, manage staff performance.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Ensure staff have the required resources to carry out their functions.
  • Work with the Ambulatory Care leadership team to establish and monitor outcome and safety indicators to advance evidence-based, informed clinical practice that meets strategic goals and supports departmental and organizational goals.
  • Implement departmental strategies.
  • Follow up on incident reports generated through the Safety Reporting System.
  • Recommend and implement solutions to improve staff and patient safety.
  • Manage budgets, including managing within assigned budgets; monitoring expenses; processing payments.
  • Work in collaboration with the Operations Director and Medical Directors to participate in the development of corporate goals and objectives.
  • Monitor clinical, operational, quality and fiscal indicators and make recommendations on the development of Departmental strategies to improve these indicators.
  • Foster an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to care.
  • Create and monitor metrics for clinical and administrative teams within the portfolio to ensure optimal patient outcomes and excellent service delivery.
  • Work in collaboration with leadership, staff and physicians in other Departments to ensure effective delivery of patient care/services.
  • Represent Ambulatory Care on hospital committees as required.
  • Liaise with external agencies to enhance regional relationships and projects.
  • Lead and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives for the department
  • Ensure that staff has adequate training in order to provide quality service to patients and families in Ambulatory Care
  • Liaise with departmental support services (most notably Information Services and Clinical Engineering) ensure safe and effective service delivery.
  • Maintain personal knowledge of pertinent EHR systems (Epic)
    Support a culture of continuous improvement and continuous learning.
