Job description

We Are Hiring

  • Schedule: Full time nights
  • Hospital: Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown
  • Location: Nashville, TN

The 5 Central General Surgery unit consists of 21 beds for pre and post surgical patients. We care for the adult population with a variety of GI related and vascular-related diagnoses.

What You Will Do

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring the implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned areas.

  • Assign, direct, educate, and monitor nursing and support associates during assigned shifts.
  • Meet with staff and exercise independent judgment to plan the shifts, services, and patient care.
  • Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring appropriate patient care and maintaining productivity standards, justifying variances to the unit manager or designee.
  • Respond to complaints about patient care through established channels.
  • Facilitate the availability of adequate materials, resources, and supplies.
  • Set priorities appropriate to daily patient and physician needs.
  • Provide input into hiring, training, directing, developing, and evaluating staff.
What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire or transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Registered Nurse credential from the Tennessee Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire or transfer date required.

Education:

  • Required professional licensure/certification and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
