Clinical Informatics transforms health care by designing, implementing, and evaluating information and communication systems to improve patient care, enhance access to care, advance individual and population health outcomes, and strengthen the clinician-patient relationship.
The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) reports to the Manager and provides consultation, facilitation, and instruction on the design, optimization, and integration of clinical workflow applications related to various clinical information systems. The role is a key member of a multidisciplinary team and shares responsibility and accountability for automating and enhancing clinical practices, patient/client information, and clinical documentation access via the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
The CIS acts as a liaison between Professional Practice, Digital Health/Information Management, clinical operations leaders, users (staff and clinicians), and other groups. They utilize their clinical expertise and information systems/computer science experience to enhance the effectiveness, validity, and sustainability of clinical initiatives supporting the transition to a fully integrated EHR.
