Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is seeking Nursing Students for the Extern program at Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. The extern will work part time hours on a contract basis, with shifts including days/evenings/nights and weekends as unit needs dictate.

External candidates must be in 2nd–4th year of a CNO-approved nursing program and hold current BCLS certification. The role reports to a Registered Health Professional and offers a flexible, supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Must be a Nursing Student between 2nd and 4th year of a CNO approved program.
• Must be available a minimum of 18.75 hours per week, with flexible availability.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with point of care nurses to identify patient care needs.
• Assist with personal hygiene care, patient positioning, and transfers.
• Assist with ambulation, meals (including feeding) and with patient/family communication.
• Support the care team with supplies, equipment, transportation and other duties.
