CGMH is an 82-bed facility serving more than 60,000 permanent residents and 3.5 million annual visitors to the communities of Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Clearview and the Blue Mountains. CGMH is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic services including lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatient units (medicine and surgery). The Opportunity

The Clinical Educator works in collaboration with all members of management, physicians and point of care staff. The Clinical Education is responsible for providing leadership to staff in advancing clinical performance through clinical consultation, role modeling, education, coaching and mentoring consistent with the corporate vision, mission and values.

The Clinical Educator leads the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative, evidence-based clinical improvement and education activities supporting collaborative quality and patient-focused care.

The Clinical Educator is responsible for maintaining current knowledge and competency in his/her clinical practice and role models continuous life-long learning through professional development. The Clinical Educator engages in ethical conduct and demonstrates appreciation of a diverse patient population and workforce.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Masters preparation in Nursing and/or Education preferred.
  • Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience and expertise in a variety of settings that involve patient care across the lifespan continuum.
  • Experience within a variety of healthcare settings with staff education training and mentoring.
  • Excellent references from direct supervisor/manager related to the ability to provide learner centered education, provide leadership and be a role model.
  • 5 years’ experience
  • Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers
  • Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be dedicated to professional growth & development
  • Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent attendance/performance record
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with other members of the health care team
  • Experience as a Clinical Educator preferred.
  • BCLS preferred

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Models the core values of the organization.
  • Promotes excellence in clinical practice through the development of evidence based staff education programs and services, staff education, and facilitation of critical thinking, inquiry and analysis.
  • Supports and actively participates with clinical teams in implementing evidence-based practice to achieve program and corporate outcomes.
  • Effectively apply organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload, to problem solve, and to adapt to frequent interruptions and change.
  • Represents the hospital internally and externally with respect as required.
  • Collaboratively leads development, implementation and evaluation of associated evidence-based policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care.
  • Supports clinical staff in the interpretation and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Provides consultation and collaborative care planning expertise to clinical teams, patients and families with a focus on building capacity with individuals and teams.
  • Models and support inter-professional collaborative practice and patient focused care.
  • Mentors staff and provides training during routine and flexible work schedules.
  • Provides feedback to managers regarding performance/competency assessments and assists staff with learning plans to address clinical practice concerns.
  • Responds to the immediate and long-term learning needs of staff and facilitates problem-solving techniques based on priority of needs.
  • Promotes a creative approach to knowledge and skill development through available resources and the use of various teaching strategies (e.g. lectures, demonstrations, information/learning packages, etc.).
  • Supports student clinical placements, preceptors and educators in conjunction with Human Resources, Department Managers and Applications to provide orientation, instruction and educational experiences for students in the clinical area.
  • Supports staff and acts as a resource in identifying and meeting their own learning needs.
  • Supports nurses in meeting the College of Nurses of Ontario and the organization's competency requirements as well as accreditation standards in a manner that promotes an environment of quality care for patients.

Employment Type: Temporary Full-time (approximately 6 months)

Start Date: In line with next Hospital Orientation intake.

Hours of Work: Days, Monday to Friday. Please be reminded that as a Hospital, in order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work week days and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights.

Wage: $39.07 - $56.00
