Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto General Hospital seeks a temporary Clinical Educator to join the Collaborative Academic Practice portfolio. The educator will align with the CVICU leadership, applying evidence‑based practice to advance care and education at the point of care.

The role involves developing learning programs, conducting clinical consultations, and addressing gaps in practice while collaborating with managers, educators, and stakeholders across the unit and university

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of nursing experience in a critical care unit.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular patient populations required.
  • Completion of specialty certification programs relevant to clinical areas.
  • Experience in adult education including learning needs assessment and program planning.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BCLS Level II certification.
  • Excellent leadership and time management.
  • Ability to coach, collaborate, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Able to work in an interdisciplinary team and meet multiple deadlines.
  • RNAO membership preferred.
  • Membership in related professional groups preferred.

Salary : $45.85 - $57.31

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Status: Temporary Full-Time (6 months)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, this temporary Clinical Educator (CE) role is a member of Collaborative Academic Practice & Practice-Based Education portfolios. The CE is aligned with the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) leadership team at Toronto General, and is expected to demonstrate core competencies essential for advancing best practices at the point of care.

In this role, the CE will contribute to enhancing patient care by applying evidence-based practices, providing clinical consultation, and addressing gaps in practice. The CE uses best practice in education to assess learning needs, develop, design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs. They will collaborate with unit managers, fellow educators, and other stakeholders to support practice-based initiatives and clinical care projects within the unit.

Duties
  • Design and deliver tailored staff education.
  • Promote professional development, and mentors nurses for career growth.
  • Lead program evaluation, implement innovative education strategies, and support and lead quality improvement initiatives.
  • Drive nursing visibility and change management efforts, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with teams across UHN and the academic community on clinical and educational initiatives.
  • Participate in committees, and share best practices.
Critical Care Experience required
  • A minimum of five (5) years of recent nursing experience in relevant critical care unit
  • Knowledge of nursing care of cardiovascular patient populations is considered required
  • Completion of specialty-specific certification program(s) relevant to respective clinical areas
  • Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including learning needs assessment, educational program planning, development, and evaluation an asset
  • Current certificate of licensure/registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification
  • Excellent leadership, time management, presentation skills
  • Ability to be adaptable, build trust, provide coaching and collaboration, facilitate change and promote continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate staff and create an environment conducive to learning and team building
  • Sound knowledge base in areas of specialty and the education process
  • Able to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Competence in use of information technology
  • Ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
  • Current membership in RNAO (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario) is preferred
  • Current membership in a related professional interest group or association is preferred
