Job Summary:
The Clinical Education Manager provides leadership in clinical and professional practice education. The incumbent oversees and directs the provision of quality and client-centred care. They proactively assess and determine education programming for both regulated and unregulated roles, are responsible for performance evaluation of clinical staff, develop learning plans, and deliver and evaluate practice education aligned with the Organization's goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership support to the District Executive Director/Senior Manager in areas of clinical practice, evidence-based practice, staff performance management, and improvement.
- Conducts needs assessments to identify practice education requirements and develops programming to meet these needs, setting priorities in support of organizational goals.
- Ensures core competencies for clinical staff are identified, developed, and maintained.
- Develops practice education programs collaboratively with other Clinical Education Managers to ensure standardization.
- Participates in all aspects of the employee lifecycle for clinical roles, including recruitment, performance management, disciplinary actions, and termination.
- Evaluates and revises existing practice education programs as needed.
- Develops integrated practice education supporting service delivery across lines of business.
- Provides clinical guidance to front-line staff to incorporate new knowledge and best practices.
- Observes and assesses clinical staff performance.
- Uses patient and family experience data to inform performance improvements.
- Supports staff in developing individual learning plans and addressing performance gaps.
- Assesses clinical practice in accordance with standards, policies, legislation, and regulations.
- Promotes clinical excellence through evidence-based decision-making and a culture of inquiry and safety.
- Contributes to regional practice education development, delivery, and evaluation.
- Participates in quality improvement activities to meet performance targets.
- Collaborates with Program Managers to ensure cost-effective service delivery.
- Fosters a learning environment for staff development.
Common Responsibilities:
- Advocates for the goals and values of VON as an integrated community care provider.
- Ensures a safe, healthy workplace compliant with occupational health and safety regulations and policies.
- Adheres to all organizational policies, confidentiality, and data protection policies.
- Works collaboratively within teams to deliver services.
External and Internal Relationships:
- Works with client organizations, health authorities, community agencies, educational institutions, and internal departments.
- Builds partnerships to ensure relevant and current practice education materials.
- May participate in regional or national committees related to quality, safety, recruitment, or accreditation.
Education, Designations, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BScN, BN) required; Master’s preferred.
- Current registration with provincial nursing regulatory body.
- Minimum 5 years of recent clinical nursing experience, including education program development.
- Certificate or experience in Gerontology, wound care, IV therapy, palliative care.
- Knowledge of education theories, adult learning principles, and evidence-based practice.
- Experience in homecare is an asset; additional certifications preferred.
