Qualifications

  • Certified Diabetes Educator – current.
  • Recent clinical experience (within the last 2 years) in Diabetes Education.
  • Willing to supervise dietetic interns.

DEPARTMENT: DIABETES EDUCATION

POSITION LOCATION: MEAFORD (PRIMARY) / MARKDALE (SECONDARY) - DUAL SITE POSITION

UNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU - HPD

STATUS: FULL-TIME

WAGE RATE: $41.68 - $53.28

Reporting to the Manager, Grey Bruce Diabetes Program, the Registered Dietitian works in a team environment to assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate individual counselling and group education programs for people with prediabetes, diabetes, or at high risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes education is patient-centered, reflects the principles of chronic disease self-management, and incorporates evidence-based standards of practice as identified in the current Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Diabetes in Canada and the Standards for Diabetes Education in Canada.

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for providing nutritional care for inpatients at his/her assigned site, including assessment, care planning, monitoring, education, and counselling, in compliance with professional standards and evidence-based practice guidelines.

Within his/her scope of practice, the Dietitian works in an interprofessional team to coordinate all phases of nutrition care and acts as a consultant and resource for other healthcare professionals regarding nutritional care and diabetes management. This role collaborates with community, long-term care, and hospital settings to build capacity and expertise in diabetes prevention and management.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition or equivalent
  • Graduate from an accredited Internship/Masters Practicum Program
  • General member with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Member of the Diabetes Educator Section of Canadian Diabetes Association
  • Certified Diabetes Educator – current
  • Recent clinical experience (within the last 2 years) in Diabetes Education
  • Certificate in Diabetes Education and/or Principles of Adult Education
  • Able to support intensive insulin therapy (multiple daily insulin injections)
  • Willing to become certified in insulin management
  • Certified Insulin Pump trainer or recent experience with Insulin Pumps is an asset
  • Willing to supervise dietetic interns
  • Experience in delivering individual and group instruction to patients, community members, and health professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and chronic disease self-management
  • Completion of Indigenous Cultural Safety Training
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Commitment to continuous learning
  • Valid Class G Driver’s license and access to a reliable insurable vehicle
  • Willingness and ability to travel outside assigned sites
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Good performance and attendance records
