Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Dietitian Practice Leader or designate, conducts nutritional screening of patients for malnutrition risk, visits patients to obtain diet related information regarding nutritional and therapeutic diet needs; identifies patient food preference/food tolerance/food acceptance; charts activities in patient medical record such as meal intake, diet and diet-related information; inputs and/or updates patient diet and diet-related information into a computerized system. Works collaboratively with Food Service and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Acts as an ambassador & representative of Food and Nutrition Services.

Responsibilities
  • Visits patients and/or families during assigned meal rounds to obtain and exchange diet, diet related information, diet history, food preference and acceptance.
  • Reviews medical record and liaises with other staff to obtain information; inputs diet and diet-related information into a computerized system.
  • Conducts nutritional screenings for malnutrition risk using standardized forms and provides information to Registered Dietitian for further evaluation.
  • Reviews, updates and/or charts diet and diet-related information on patient medical record; provides patient diet information and diet changes to other healthcare staff, as needed.
  • Visits specific assigned patients on a regular basis to ensure that the food is consistent with assigned nutritional plan; charts food intake and forwards this information to the Registered Dietitian or designate.
  • Prepares and oversees the inventory of specialty formula and related items including ordering, receiving and directing storage of supplies, as required for the designated location.
  • Establishes and ensures maintenance of food rotations in storage areas, refrigerators and freezers to minimize spoilage and waste; ensures HAACP regulations are observed and follows established policies and procedures for preparing infant formula.
  • Maintains manuals and statistical information for the department and participates in the department's Quality Assurance Program including participation in audits and inspections and provides input into patient menu revisions, as requested.
  • Maintains records of staff such as names, addresses, phone numbers, availability of work and suitable work areas. Prepares schedule for Food & Nutrition Services staff as assigned.
  • Calls in relief staff according to pre-determined guidelines as assigned; refers problems to supervisor.
  • Processes requests such as vacation and leaves of absence by preparing appropriate documents and communicates decisions to employees as assigned.
  • Completes timekeeping records and submits to payroll as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from a recognized two year program in Food Service Supervision, plus one (1) year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current Food Safe Level II certificate.
