Job summary

Humber River Health in Toronto is seeking an Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator to join the IPAC Hub. The role supports CLSs in long-term care, retirement, and congregate housing settings with education, coaching, and policy development.

Travel to multiple sites is required, and the position is a permanent part-time role with primarily day shifts. Ontario registration and CIC/LTC-CIP certification are required or planned.

Qualifications

  • Two years IPAC experience preferred.
  • MS Office proficiency and ability to educate adults.
  • Strong communication and data interpretation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and coach those most responsible for IPAC in CLSs.
  • Assist with outbreak management planning and supporting the implementation of outbreak control measures in collaboration with Toronto Public Health.
  • Deliver education and training to those who support IPAC in CLSs.
  • Work alongside CLSs in the development of IPAC programs, policies and procedures within your organizations.
  • Work alongside CLSs in IPAC assessments and audits and feedback of IPAC programs and practices.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen IPAC programs and practices, and support CLSs to implement IPAC recommendations.
  • Host networking opportunities (e.g. community of practices, drop-in sessions) for information sharing, education, and collaboration.
  • Participate and support Clinical Research Studies, where applicable.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator to join our Infection Prevention and Control Hub Team!Employment Status: Permanent Part-timeHours of Work: Primarily days (Monday to Friday) with flexibility to meet the needs of the department (schedules may change based on operational needs). Location: Role requires travel to congregate living settings supported by Humber River Health. HRH's Infection Prevention and Control Hub (IPAC Hub) builds capacity for the sustainable implementation of IPAC practices to protect the vulnerable populations living in congregate living settings (CLS). These include long term care homes, retirement homes, group homes, supportive housing, and shelters. HRH's IPAC Hub provides tailored guidance, networking opportunities, coaching, mentoring, training and education to CLS's within the North West Toronto catchment. The team works alongside IPAC staff in these settings to build IPAC knowledge and strengthen practices by offering guidance, education, coaching, and resources. The Hub's approach is collaborative and supportive, tailored to the CLS's needs and focused on helping CLS's make sustainable evidence – based improvements

Position Responsibilities:

Requirements
  • Valid driver's license required to provide coverage at multiple sites
Education:
  • Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Nursing or other related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
  • Current Ontario registration in good standing as a regulated healthcare professional, preferred
  • Current Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC; LTC-CIP) or evidence of course enrollment and plan to complete certification within 3 years
  • Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control course endorsed by IPAC Canada
Experience:
  • Two (2) years Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) experience preferred
Required Skills:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with Adult education
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear expectations and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated experience with Epidemiology, Statistical Analysis, Data Processing, and vaccination protocols in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent independence, interpersonal, problem solving, customer service, critical thinking, tact and diplomacy skills required
