Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor quality systems for Ontario Chemistry laboratories.
  • Maintain high standards through audits and corrective actions.
  • Implement new test guidelines and protocols.
  • Consult with healthcare providers on test selection and interpretation.
  • Support interpretation of chemistry tests, including specialized procedures.
  • Lead technology selection and support business cases for equipment.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and lab-developed tests.
  • Act as an internal resource for staff training and competency reviews.
  • Provide educational seminars and collaborate on quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work with external partners to ensure service quality within the health landscape.
  • Support business development and participate in professional activities.
  • Build expertise in testing areas and pursue professional development.

Qualifications

  • PhD with certification (or eligible) in Clinical Biochemistry by the Canadian Academy or in Clinical Chemistry by the ABCC.
  • Problem-solving skills with a common sense approach.
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented.
  • Leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary labs preferred.
  • Skills in clinical informatics and project management are assets.

The Toronto Reference Laboratory features advanced equipment supporting routine and specialized assays, with high automation and a large clinical mass spectrometry facility. We partner with AI companies to improve testing workflows and quality.
