Position Profile

A Full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, depending upon experience and qualifications at the time of appointment. This position is jointly appointed to the Division of Urology, Department of Surgery, at Western University and to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH).


Academic and Clinical Expectations

The successful candidate must have strong clinical expertise in general urology. They will also be responsible for coverage of weekend London city-wide urology call on rotation, in addition to urology call as expected by the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. This is a hybrid academic and community urology program whereby the majority of the clinical load will be carried out at STEGH (80%) and the remainder at St. Joseph's Health Care London (SJHC) and London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) (20%). The recruit will be expected to carry out the expectations commensurate with a full-time academic appointment at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, LHSC, and SJHC.


Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an MD or equivalent; have completed an accredited urology residency training program, fellowship training in endourology, minimally invasive surgery or andrology would be preferred; possess and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills; have a strong research interest and/or an advanced degree; and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario.


The successful candidate must be interested in pursuing a strong academic career and have a proven track record of productivity consistent with their level of training and years of experience. The candidate will be expected to participate actively in the Division of Urology's academic, research and education initiatives, including teaching and supervision of undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and clinical fellows. Applicants considered at the rank of Associate or Full Professor must have demonstrated the ability to publish in the highest quality academic and subspecialty outlets and be a recognized expert in their field of research.


The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and bedside manner as well as the ability to work in a team.

Division Profile

The Division of Urology is affiliated with London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London and is presently comprised of 14 surgeons with busy clinical practices ranging across all urological subspecialties. Many of members of the Division hold leadership positions across subspecialty urology organizations and the Division is highly regarded for its pioneering academic and clinical contributions to the field of Urology. The Division has a very strong Royal College accredited residency program and houses fellowship programs across oncology, pediatrics, transplantation, endourology, minimally invasive surgery, andrology and functional urology- many of which are accredited through their subspecialty organizations or through the Royal College.


St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital

St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is a medium-sized community hospital (179 beds), with a large volume ER (61,000 patients/year), and busy surgical services completing over 10,000 surgeries per year. STEGH offers a comprehensive range of services, including outpatient care, diagnostic imaging, inpatient acute care, emergency services, post-acute care, and regional satellite programs. Committed to achieving the best possible health outcomes for our patients, they continuously explore innovative approaches to service delivery, patient engagement, workforce development, and collaboration with healthcare partners.
