Shared Health is seeking a Clinical Biochemist (1.0 EFT) to serve hospital-based laboratories throughout Manitoba, as part of a team of Clinical Biochemists. The successful candidate will be located in Winnipeg at one of the University of Manitoba affiliated hospitals. Our laboratories serve patients in both hospital and community settings.
Reporting to the Clinical Biochemistry Medical Director, the ideal candidate will be highly motivated, willing to work both independently and in team settings, and have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. A strong background in clinical chemistry with excellent analytical and interpretive skills is required. Experience with LC-MS/MS is required; the successful applicant will need to develop and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and GC-MS/MS methods. Knowledge of interpretation of Organic Acids, Amino Acids, Carnitines, and Acylcarnitines is an asset, or interest in completing additional training in this area. The successful candidate will be required to support good laboratory stewardship and have the ability to set up, maintain, conduct repairs, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Candidates must have a PhD and be Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Clinical Biochemistry or eligible for certification. Individuals with certification from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry may also be considered.
Service responsibilities include quality oversight, equipment/method selection and validation, pre-analytical processes, policy and procedure development and review, test interpretation, quality improvement, appropriate test utilization, and communication with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, Regional Health Authorities, and clinical programs. Academic responsibilities include providing CME for staff and physicians, teaching in our CACB-accredited post-doctoral training program in Clinical Biochemistry and other medical residency and student programs, and engaging in collaborative or independent research. The successful candidate is eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Manitoba.
