Job summary

Clean Foundation is seeking a Community Navigator to advance climate action in Cape Breton, NS. You will work with municipalities and partners to address local challenges, improve energy planning, and support infrastructure projects that strengthen resilience.

You will build relationships, develop funding applications, and help communities apply clean energy solutions from planning to implementation. This role emphasizes collaboration and practical outcomes for local climate priorities.

Qualifications

• Diploma in sustainability, environmental studies/science, civil engineering, renewable energy or related field.
• 1–2 years experience in climate change and/or renewable energy work.
• Understanding of sustainability, climate adaptation/mitigation, and community resilience.
• Familiarity with Nova Scotia climate policies and coastal ecosystems.
• Strong organizational skills with multiple priorities.
• Experience delivering trainings/workshops and stakeholder meetings.
• Strong written and verbal communication, including reports and funding applications.
• Public speaking and representing complex information to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Valid Nova Scotia or other Canadian driver’s license.
• Ability to pass criminal record check and driver’s abstract.
• Candidates living in Cape Breton preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advance local climate action with communities and partners.
• Develop customized work plans for assigned communities.
• Research climate adaptation, mitigation and planning approaches.
• Build relationships with stakeholders and rightsholders.
• Prepare briefings on technical topics.
• Lead community engagement activities and serve as primary contact.
• Manage community projects, timelines and deliverables.
• Identify funding opportunities and assist with applications.
• Represent Clean Foundation at stakeholder engagements.
• Track progress and complete reporting for communities.
• Communicate technical information to varied audiences.
• Support understanding of coastal hazards for decision making.
