Job description

About the Client Reporting Team

We are seeking a curious and analytical individual to join the global Client Reporting team. The team plays a central role in delivering accurate, thoughtful and timely information to clients, consultants and colleagues across Orbis, while improving the systems and processes that support our global client servicing efforts. This is a permanent role based in our Vancouver office.

The Client Reporting team supports Orbis’ institutional client and consultant relationships by delivering recurring and ad-hoc reporting, analysis, due diligence materials, and data, while supporting Client Managers in ongoing prospecting and servicing efforts. We seek to build long-term partnerships with organisations and people who share our values. To earn our clients’ trust and confidence, team members develop in-depth knowledge about various parts of our business, including our firm and investment strategies. This enables us to communicate complex information accurately and in detail, while providing the context and perspective most relevant to each audience.

We service Orbis’ global client base and have team members in Canada and the United Kingdom. The team is empowered – and expected – to have a direct impact on our global institutional client efforts to attract and retain clients through exceptional client servicing.

Why Orbis?
  • Culture. We encourage intellectual curiosity and individualism as well as collaboration across different areas of the business. Employees' voices – whether quiet or loud – are heard. Sharing ideas and challenging the status quo are commonplace, and managers nurture this behavior.
  • Autonomy. While guidance and support are provided and always readily available, team members own their work and projects.
  • Growth opportunities. We support our employees in continuous learning and development. This includes using new technologies, attending conferences, secondments with other teams, visiting other Orbis locations, external courses and training.
  • Agile work environment. We are committed to providing our people with a work environment where they can balance their successful career with other commitments and interests outside of work.
  • Philanthropy. Our employees have the opportunity to contribute to society in a unique and personal way, through various philanthropy opportunities and programs.
What will your responsibilities be?

You will be exposed to a wide range of responsibilities in support of our client efforts. This includes developing an in-depth understanding of the client landscape, proprietary tools and resources, and our investment portfolios to deliver excellent service to our clients. Your starting responsibilities will include a subset of the below, tailored to your skills, interests, abilities, and our clients’ needs. Core responsibilities include:

  • Analyse, review, and maintain client reporting materials that include performance, risk measures, portfolio exposures, and fee information, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Own reporting calculations and methodologies; document data sources, processes and controls; and investigate discrepancies to provide clear, reproducible solutions.
  • Analyse large and complex datasets using internal systems and data tools to respond to client and internal requests accurately and efficiently.
  • Contribute to, and progressively take ownership of, cross-regional projects focused on refining our client reporting and information distribution structure and processes to meet client needs.
  • Partner with technology and operations teams to design, test, and implement improvements to reporting workflows, controls, and automation.
  • Prepare and maintain key client materials such as presentation slides, due diligence questionnaires, and investment-related materials as well as supporting RFP, RFI, and DDQ submissions in partnership with relevant subject-matter experts.
  • Build effective working relationships across Orbis, including with investment, client, operations, legal, compliance, and technology teams to deliver thoughtful service to clients.
About you

You should have the following attributes:

  • A client-centric attitude with outstanding personal ethics, judgement, and a willingness to collaborate with others in cross-regional teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to investigate complex matters and distil them into clear, practical conclusions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the judgement to communicate complex information clearly and tailor the level of detail and context to different audiences.
  • A self-starter who takes initiative, thinks independently and critically, and is comfortable respectfully challenging assumptions when something does not appear right.
  • Learning agility – a focus on continuous improvement with a growth mindset and willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated comfort working with data and systems, together with an interest in continuing to develop technical proficiency across a range of internal and external tools.
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation and follow-through, with the ability to manage recurring deadlines and unplanned requests in a global environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an intrinsic desire to understand the “why” behind our work, not simply how to complete a task, with the initiative to investigate details independently, connect information, and develop a well-reasoned understanding.
  • Undergraduate degree with a strong record of academic achievement and continuous improvement.
  • 3-6 years of professional experience, which may include client reporting, investment operations, performance measurement, data analysis, consulting, audit, or another relevant area of financial services with a track record of success.
  • A CFA, CPA, CIPM or comparable professional designation, or progress toward one, would be an asset but is not required.
What We Offer

The annual base salary for this position will be between $90,000 and $120,000 per year excluding benefits. The total compensation package also includes a discretionary bonus.

The Company

We are a global firm with offices across eight countries, over 400 employees and more than $50 billion in assets under management. But those numbers don't define Orbis. It's our values, how we do things day-by-day, and how we add value for our clients that define us.

Our investment philosophy is fundamental, long-term and contrarian. As contrarian investors, we aim to take a different perspective, and this filters into everything we do. To invest differently, you need to think differently. This is encouraged by having teams of people with different background, experiences and ways of thinking.
