Job description

CLEANER TEMPORARY

Assumption College School, Brantford

12 Months/Year; 40 Hours/Week - 1.0 FTE

Mid Shift - 11:30 am to 7:30 pm

Start Date: To Be Determined

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in cleaning procedures and techniques, normally acquired through a combination of at least one year of training and experience in commercial or institutional cleaning;
  • An Ontario Secondary School Diploma, including technical subjects, is preferred;
  • Able to read and write text, including writing requisitions for supplies, writing reports regarding occurrences at the job site, reading and understanding WHMIS and Material Safety Data Sheets and using basic arithmetic including proportions;
  • A working knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures such as WHMIS, use of personal protective equipment, lifting techniques, materials handling, and working from ladders and scaffolding. Able to understand all WHMIS and safety regulations and perform tasks in a safe manner;
  • Knowledge and experience in the safe operation of all equipment used as a cleaner, such as vacuum cleaners, wet/dry shop vacuums and building security systems;
  • Basic working knowledge of a computerized environment, including internet and e-mail;
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and/or in a group setting; and
  • Subject to the Board's duty to accommodate, ability to perform required physical tasks, including pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying moderate loads, including pails of water and bags of garbage.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Required to effectively perform a wide variety of janitorial cleaning functions;
  • Assist in the maintenance of the school groups including monitoring grounds for garbage, i.e., paper, glass, etc. and tending gardens and flower beds;
  • Be aware of and report any potentially harmful items or occurrences on or around school property;
  • Assist with school security system, including checking and locking interior/exterior doors, checking, closing and locking windows through the building, turning lights on/off and activating the security system at the end of the shift;
  • Work in compliance with WHMIS regulations and ensure that chemicals are used, labelled and stored safely in accordance with the Material Safety Data Sheet. This includes referencing MSDS's using computer programs;
  • Follow safe work practices and procedures, including ensuring that proper protective equipment is worn and maintained; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Maintenance, Principal or Designate.
