The Cleaner ensures the safety of all members, property, and self by following established Workplace Health and Safety practices and procedures. The position is responsible for performing all light duty cleaning, project and general cleaning, laundry duties, and maintaining cleaning and laundry equipment in good repair at all times.

In this role, you will :

  • Perform all light duty cleaning, project cleaning, general cleaning, and keep cleaning equipment clean and in good repair.
  • Perform light duty cleaning such as dusting, sweeping and washing floors, vacuuming carpets and upholstery, cleaning lockers, countertops, railings, mirrors, glazing, and windows, as well as cleaning cardio and strength equipment in the conditioning room, Cyclefit room, and free weight room.
  • Clean washrooms including toilets, urinals, washbasins, vanities, replenish toiletries and body soap, and remove garbage from various areas for proper disposal.
  • Perform laundry duties, including collecting used towels, loading and unloading laundry machines, folding towels, and replenishing towels at the service desks.
  • Ensure safety of all participants, property, and self by following Workplace Health and Safety practices.
  • Provide high-standard customer service to all participants as per SAM standards and other guidelines.
  • Demonstrate behaviors aligned with our Mission, Vision, and Values, taking a member-focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represent the YMCA professionally.
  • Value volunteer staff partnerships and incorporate philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors, and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You bring :

  • Cleaning experience in a commercial setting
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers; excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Flexibility regarding work schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends
  • WHMIS training and certification
  • An understanding and appreciation of the YMCA’s mission, vision, strategic outcomes, and values
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging
