Qualifications

Overview

Join to apply for the Classroom Technology - Student Worker role at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

SAIT’s Information Technology Services department handles all software and hardware needs, as well as technological and networking issues for both employees and students who rely heavily on computer systems across our campuses. Technical support — which includes help with computer hardware and software technical problems, email, audio-visual needs and more — is available to everyone at SAIT, whether the problem occurs at home or on-campus.

The Opportunity

The Classroom Technology - Student Worker position is responsible for supporting Academic Technology in maintaining classroom computers across SAIT campuses. Responsibilities include responding to service calls, troubleshooting technology related issues and working around classroom schedules to proactively maintain access to technology. The role also requires effective collaboration and communication with other technical teams to facilitate execution of year-round technology projects.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and respond to classroom support ticket requests
  • Replace defective technology equipment in the classroom
  • Provide computer support, setup and configuration that directly connects to technology in the classroom
  • Report classroom deficiencies to supervisor
  • Assist embedded project teams with pre-work and scheduling, so work can be completed around instructional time
  • Organize and maintain a clean shop environment so that it is safe for all workers
  • Help track lifecycle of technology equipment
  • Assist with receiving of large equipment purchases
  • Test, troubleshoot and work with SAIT approved vendors to coordinate RMA
  • Partake in professional development opportunities to upgrade skills that support ITS delivery of technology within the classroom
  • Document process and procedures in the knowledge base articles
  • Collaborate effectively with all Information Technology Services staff / teams
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be a SAIT student currently enrolled in a two-year diploma program or four-year bachelor's degree program in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related program.
  • Must be enrolled in and attending Fall 2025 AND Winter 2026 semester classes. Proof of registration will be required prior to hiring. Students graduating after the Fall 2025 semester will not be eligible for this position.
  • 1-2 years of Windows OS deskside support experience is preferred.
  • CompTIA A+ certification is an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows 10 / 11 and Microsoft Office products is required.
  • General technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills on computer software and hardware, and other educational technology is preferred.
  • Experience using service management ticketing systems, such as ServiceNow is an asset.
  • A good understanding of audio-visual components is an asset.
