Job summary

The Ministry of Education, W. Ross Macdonald School for the Blind in Brantford, Ontario, is seeking a Classroom Assistant for a 1 temporary seasonal position September to June recurring.

You will work with children who are visually impaired with multiple exceptionalities within a multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities include delivering individual and group programs, assisting with physical needs, and preparing materials while following up on programs set up by other professionals.

Qualifications

• Community college certificate or equivalent training in a child-related field.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR with AED.

Mandatory requirements

• Community College certificate and/or equivalent training, education and working experience in a child-related field.
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with AED.

Skills and Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience working with children who are visually impaired and may have other emotional and behavioural disorders.
• Knowledge of child development and an understanding of caring for children with special needs.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and practices that address student care and safety.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and observation skills to identify students’ needs and difficulties.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students who may have a variety of multiple exceptionalities in an educational setting.
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) certification is an asset.
• Ability and willingness to assist special needs students as required.
