Job description

Our GFL Prince George Team is seeking a Class 1 Van Trailer/Step Deck and End Dump Driver. The role involves transporting waste from various customer sites across BC, primarily using Van trailers/Step decks and occasionally End Dumps.

This position operates Monday through Friday and is based in Prince George, BC.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Oversee cargo handling, including loading bulk liquids and securing loads of bins and drums, ensuring equipment is prepared and safety practices are followed in compliance with applicable acts and regulations.
2. Work with government documents such as manifests.
3. Perform safety inspections on equipment and loads before trips.
4. Adhere to legislation regarding safe operation, carriage of goods, driver hours, occupational health and safety, dangerous goods transportation, and weight/dimension regulations.
5. Operate trucks into loading/unloading positions, following signals and checking equipment positioning.
6. Ensure vehicles are mechanically sound and report any defects or incidents.
7. Verify and complete all load documentation accurately.
8. Maintain logs of working hours, vehicle service, and repairs as per regulations.
9. Record and manage documentation like driver logs, bills of lading, and manifests.
10. Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and team members.
11. Load and unload trucks, ensuring loads are secure during transit.
12. Deliver products and paperwork to customers courteously and promptly.
13. Clean up debris from loading/unloading processes.
14. Provide feedback on customer, mechanical, or delivery issues to supervision.
15. Train colleagues as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Willingness to work out of town; travel and LOA included.
• Valid Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License.
• Experience hauling various materials and securing containers.
• Ability to operate manual transmission trucks.
• Successful completion of pre-hire and site-specific drug and alcohol tests.
• Experience in safety-sensitive environments.

• Basic computer skills are an asset.
• Self-motivated with a strong mechanical aptitude.
• Organizational skills with excellent communication abilities.
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage time effectively.
• High personal integrity and work ethic.
• Ability to work outdoors and indoors and lift over 50 lbs.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed.
