Claims Specialist – Casualty & Specialty Canada Claims
How does this role help us to succeed?

AXIS Insurance is a world leader in specialty lines insurance, including professional liability within the Canadian market. We are seeking a talented and dynamic claim professional to join our Canada Claims team as a Claim Specialist. This position will provide specialized technical claim handling for primary and excess liability claims under our GL, EIL, Design Professional, and other Specialty policies. The Claim Specialist will determine the nature of loss and scope of coverage, actively manage and collaborate with external counsel to drive claims toward resolution. This role is ideal for a motivated, curious, and technically proficient lawyer or claims professional with the initiative and pleasant demeanor to work in a team setting and support internal and external clients such as insureds, brokers, underwriters, operations, and third-party administrator (“TPA”) partners.

What will you do in this role?
  1. Analyze liability and damages issues in connection with primary and excess claims, including maintaining appropriate documentation.
  2. Analyze insurance coverage issues, draft coverage letters, and communicate positions to insureds and brokers.
  3. Manage external adjusters and counsel, and collaborate with insureds in the defence and resolution of claims.
  4. Negotiate settlements.
  5. Evaluate the full pending of claims in connection with the posting and maintaining of accurate reserves.
  6. Maintain and develop relationships with brokers, risk managers, general counsels, and a variety of vendors.
  7. Provide data and analytic-based informational support to underwriters.
  8. Support underwriters with respect to marketing efforts, policy wording, and trending discussions.
  9. Provide oversight, supervision, and guidance to TPA adjusters on behalf of AXIS.
  10. Ensure prompt payment of losses and vendor invoices.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities, and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

  • Previous experience handling claims, litigation, or related experience in a legal or multiline insurance environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, interact with others, meet deadlines, and perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Great attention to detail, an open mind, and a customer service orientation.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
What we prefer you to have:
  • French language abilities (strongly preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Law degree or CIP designation.
Role Factors:

In this role, you will typically be required to:

  • Be in the office 3 days per week.
  • Be available for occasional travel and offsite meetings.
