Job summary

Intact is seeking a Claims Specialist, Accident Benefits to join our Ottawa team. You will manage routine and complex files through dispute processes and represent the company at the License Appeal Tribunal.

The ideal candidate has 5 years of accident benefit experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work autonomously in a collaborative, hybrid environment that supports growth and diversity.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years of catastrophic claims or dispute handling experience.
• A minimum of 5 years accident benefit experience.
• Knowledge of provincial auto insurance legislation.
• Strong analytical and planning skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to change.
• Good teamwork and autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the management of routine and complex files through the dispute process.
• Represent the company in the negotiation and settlement process at the License Appeal Tribunal.
• Attend License Appeal Tribunal case conferences and hearings.
• Demonstrate exposure recognition through proactive file handling with strong analysis.
• Document analysis of file in claims system including rationale for dispute recommendation.
• Communicate with our legal partners in a timely and respectful manner.
• Instruct Counsel on files in dispute.
• Conduct investigations and identify additional information to justify a claim.
• Liaise with Technical and Health Services to ensure appropriate action is in place.
• Collaborate with different business units.

Salary range (but not limited to): 94,200 - 115,200

We're looking for a Claims Specialist, Accident Benefits to join our growing team!

What you'll do here:

• Participate in the management of routine and complex files through the dispute process.
• Represent the company in the negotiation and settlement process at the License Appeal Tribunal.
• Attend License Appeal Tribunal case conferences and hearings.
• Demonstrate exposure recognition through proactive file handling with strong analysis.
• Document analysis of file in claims system including rationale for dispute recommendation.
• Communicate in a timely and respectful manner with our legal partners
• Instruct Counsel on files in dispute.
• Conduct investigations and identify additional information such as an independent medical examination, customer medical or employment history required to clarify and/or justify a claim.
• Liaising with Technical and Health Services to ensure appropriate action is in place where appropriate.
• Collaboration and networking with different business units.
• Prepare Large Loss /Gatekeeping summaries where appropriate.
• Complete training and coaching initiatives.
• Negotiate settlements with supportive rationale
• Handle a regular intake of task assignments of License Appeal Tribunal disputes

What you bring to the table:

• College or University diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience
• 2 to 3 years of Catastrophic claims handling experience and, or Catastrophic dispute handling experience.
• A minimum of 5 years accident benefit experience
• Strong analytical skills and excellent planning with a high level of thoroughness
• Can learn quickly and adapt to change
• Strong sense of team spirit
• Autonomy and proactive
• Knowledge of provincial legislation governing auto insurance
