Job summary

Aecon Nuclear is seeking a Civil Quality Control Inspector to perform quality inspections and testing for civil works associated with the Darlington New Nuclear Project. You will document results, interpret drawings, and verify materials meet standards, collaborating across departments and with partners.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years in heavy civil construction, knowledge of CSA standards, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction.
  • Experience with inspection and testing of concrete preferred.
  • Familiarity with CSA standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality inspections and testing per the Inspection and Test Plan.
  • Document inspection results and maintain records.
  • Interpret technical drawings for civil works.
  • Verify material meets PO, Code, and Standards requirements.
  • Initiate non-conformance reports when needed.
  • Collaborate on project procedures and work instructions.
  • Coordinate with management and alliance partners on quality activities.
  • Ensure calibrated equipment is used during inspections.
  • Support with History File preparation.

Civil Quality Control Inspector
What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Perform quality inspections and testing activities in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan.
  • Complete all associated records to document the status and results of performed inspections.
  • Understand and interpret technical drawings for civil works.
  • Verify that material meets Purchase Order, Code, Standards requirements.
  • Initiate non-conformance reports when required.
  • Identify and segregate nonconforming items.
  • Collaborate in the development and maintenance of project specific procedures and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with management for interface on Quality activities with internal or external organizations (customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and others).
  • Verify that calibrated equipment is used during the performance of inspection activities.
  • Support with the preparation of History File or History Docket.
  • Promote safety awareness including adhering to safety rules and requirements.
  • Other activities as required by Management.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent. A combination of education and industry experience will also be considered.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in heavy civil and/or infrastructure construction.
  • Previous experience with inspection and testing of concrete.
  • Working knowledge of the CSA A23.1, CSA A23.2, CSA N291 and CSA N287 standards and other applicable building regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the CSA W47.1 and CSA W59 standards.
  • ACI/CCIL certification (preferred)
  • CSA W178 Level 1 or 2 Visual Welding Inspection (preferred).
  • Self-directed, motivated team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Understands design and construction requirements.
  • Strong coordination and organization skills, with strict emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all internal organization departments, Alliance partners, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.

Pay Range: $35 - $55/hr
