WSP is seeking a Civil Lead to join our Rail & Transit Team in Greater Toronto (GTA), overseeing multidisciplinary municipal design projects. What you can expect to do here:
- Serve as the civil engineering subject matter expert, providing technical leadership.
- Oversee scope and design management for roadway, drainage, utilities, and traffic.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop detailed civil engineering plans.
- Lead development and review of designs, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Ensure activities align with industry standards and project requirements.
- Monitor progress to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
- Implement quality control measures and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Manage resources and budgets, planning for support needs.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure safety regulations and standards are followed.
- Communicate with stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns.
- Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and review shop drawings.
- Coordinate field inspections and liaise with team members and clients.
- Oversee development of Basis of Design documents and Level of Development (LOD) for BIM.
- Manage requirements for civil discipline, including verification and validation.
- Lead a team of approximately 120 professionals, including engineers and digital designers.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including working outside normal hours.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; a master’s is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario.
- 10-15 years of leadership experience in engineering teams for municipal, provincial, or federal projects, ideally in rail and transit.
- Deep knowledge of civil engineering principles and standards.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes, and safety standards.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Water/Sewer GEMS, EPANET.
- Good technical writing skills and fluency in English.
- Sound judgment, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- A vehicle and valid driver’s license are required.
- Physical ability to perform key tasks in various environmental conditions.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) is an asset.
- Experience with rail and transit projects is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and senior management.
- Strategic and analytical thinking skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Ability to manage deadlines, ambiguity, and change.
- Experience in a consulting engineering environment is an asset.
