Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a Senior Civil Engineer – Civil Transit Design Lead to join our growing Canadian Operations. To be successful, you must have a minimum of 15+ years of experience in civil engineering, design and design coordination on large scale transit infrastructure projects including civil works pertaining to Rail Corridors, Roadways, and Multi-Modal Corridors (LRT/BRT), and Site Development/Linear Infrastructure. The Senior Civil Engineer will cooperate and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, regional team leads across Ontario, Canada, North America, and GHD’s global network.

Key responsibilities include:
  1. Leading and developing civil engineering design for track grading, roadway, and multi-modal corridors including median LRT/BRT as well as site development and associated linear infrastructure
  2. Coordinating the preparation of civil deliverables, drawings, and details from conception to final design in a 3D modelling environment such as Civil 3D, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of projects.
  3. Leading a small team of engineers and/or designers to drive design phases and implement design standards on civil infrastructure projects of high complexity.
  4. Mentoring and supervising junior staff, fostering a team approach.
  5. Reviewing and overseeing the preparation of models and drawings, developing detailed drawings, quantities, and supporting documents with minimal guidance.
  6. Collaborating with project managers, discipline leads, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality deliverables within budget and schedule.
  7. Maintaining communication with sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies, and clients.
  8. Overseeing the preparation of reports and contract documents for review agencies, clients, and the public.
  9. Adhering to GHD BIM and Quality standards and procedures.
  10. Participating in the advancement of GHD Standard Civil Details and supporting training and lessons learned exercises.

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering
  • 15+ years’ experience in transportation infrastructure design and engineering
  • Ontario P.Eng designation (or eligible)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven success in transit infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of local codes and standards
  • Experience with 3D design software like Civil 3D or Microstation
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, organizational skills
  • Experience with BIM tools (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
