Job description

We are looking to increase our staff. We are seeking one candidates as a Geotechnical Engineer. The positions can be either a Junior or an Intermediate level of experience. The ideal candidate will be a professional with a minimum of 3 years experience or up to 7+ years experience, with preference given to those with experience in the Oil & Gas industry (specifically with Oil Sands Mining experience). (The scale of the role will be fit to the candidates experience). This position is for work in Fort McMurray, and the candidate must relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

The ideal candidate will have experience with civil engineering and construction oversight within an operating mine, including construction oversight; mine waste and tailings design; understanding of soil mechanics and rock mechanics; slope stability analysis; seepage analysis; design of large scale construction features for mining sites (tailings dam and containment structures; roads and pipelines; waste storage; ore stockpiles; reclamation); proficient in mining software (including MineScape; MineSight; AutoCAD; Geo-Slope); data analysis; communication skills; and report writing ability.

Our current client is a major mining company and the successful candidate will be working on a team of professionals in an operating Mine facility. As this is a Fort McMurray, AB based position, the roster is 5 days on and 2 days off.

Major Responsibilities

· Work onsite - providing geotechnical engineer support for construction and ensure quality work is being followed to specifications

· Provide geotechnical engineering support to mine waste and tailings management projects

· Carry out on-site engineering data analyses and determine appropriate actions for follow-up

· Carry out geotechnical investigations, instrument installation, and construction quality assurance for dams; roads; building and other mine site infrastructure

· Assist with planning and supervising geotechnical subsurface investigations

· Assist with writing geotechnical reports and technical communications;

· Provide support to senior geotechnical engineer / geotechnical manager

Qualifications and Experience

· Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (geotechnical, civil or a related field)

Registered as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)

· 3 to 7+ years of experience (preference given to Oil & Gas [Oil Sands] experience in large civil earthworks construction mining related projects, which include: field construction, performance monitoring, construction quality assurance, inspection and testing)

· Perform field and environmental investigations for Gas or Oil exploration and construction development projects

· Proficient in engineering software (Geo-Slope; MineScape; AutoCAD; Microsoft Office)

· Skilled in data interpretation; analysis and correlation

· Ability to work independently as well as in a small team setting; and foster effective working relationships with their peers

· Previous experience in Oil Sands operations will be an asset.

Additional Information:

· Only candidates who are legally permitted to work in Canada will be considered.

· Registration with APEGA is a condition of employment

· Professional Designation of P.Eng is required

· This position will require successful completion of background reference checks as well as education and credentials verification
