Job description

Civil Engineering Technologist (2025013109)

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering Technologist to join our team in Oakville, Ontario.

Thurber is a specialized consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical engineering. Our project work includes transportation, large and small infrastructure, natural hazards, development and more. We undertake challenging assignments that can include steep terrain, deep foundations, compressible soils, landslides, contamination, or other complications.

As our Technologist, you will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide construction inspection and quality control/assurance testing for various infrastructure and transportation projects;
  • Conduct field compaction testing of soils;
  • Carry out laboratory testing on soils and concrete;
  • Carry out field concrete testing as per CSA requirements;
  • Conduct pile construction monitoring for driven steel and cast-in-place concrete piles;
  • Liaise with project engineers and client’s site representatives;
  • Travel to construction sites.

Qualifications and Assets

  • Completion of a College program in Civil Engineering Technology;
  • 1 to 2 years of work experience in the field of construction materials testing;
  • Registration with OACETT or immediate eligibility;
  • Concrete Testing Certificate from CCIL is an asset;
  • This position would appeal to those who thrive in a fast-paced environment and can work effectively in a team;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing);
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English is required;
  • Shift work is required depending on workload;
  • Valid Class G Driver's license is required;
  • Driving record will be requested.
