Job summary

Qualifications

• Strong oral and written communication skills in French; be a good team player.

Responsibilities

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Planning and Services, the Civil Engineering Technician contributes to the management and monitoring of port infrastructure through site inspection, data collection, drafting, and technical support activities related to projects. Working closely in the field, the incumbent ensures the quality of the information collected, supports teams in their interventions, and participates in various mandates related to the maintenance, improvement, and development of infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide technical support to teams on infrastructure-related matters by identifying potential issues and sharing information gathered in the field;
• Contribute to the dissemination and application of infrastructure intervention best practices among internal teams and relevant stakeholders;
• Produce engineering drawings and plans, notably using AutoCAD and Civil 3D;
• Participate in the preparation and validation of construction cost estimates, including quantity take-offs, information gathering, and the application of established practices and procedures;
• Support Project Managers in carrying out technical and administrative project-related activities, as required;
• Act as a technical liaison between internal stakeholders and external parties;
• Participate in project meetings and other relevant meetings and ensure required follow-ups are completed;
• Oversee the technical monitoring of various work sites, document observations, and ensure rigorous follow-up and transfer of relevant information;
• Report observed issues to the appropriate parties and contribute, in collaboration with other team members, to identifying required adjustments, temporary measures, verifications, or follow-up actions;
• Collaborate in updating plans, databases, and technical information related to port infrastructure;
• Support the team in monitoring events and issues requiring technical understanding, including ground settlement, vessel impacts, field modifications, and the application of existing technical restrictions;
• Participate in the planning and coordination of technical surveys and carry them out. These surveys may include land surveying, drone inspections, and other field data collection activities;
• Provide support to their immediate supervisor and other team members;
• Contribute, through a positive attitude, to a work environment that promotes teamwork;
• Ensure that occupational health and safety rules are respected by all stakeholders involved;
• Perform any other related duties.

PROFILE SOUGHT:

• Hold a diploma of college studies (DEC) in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience deemed relevant;
• Have at least five (5) years of experience in similar functions;
• Possess knowledge of standards and regulations related to civil engineering;
• Have knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D software;
• Be able to apply applicable codes and standards such as the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), CCDC standards, and others;
• Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills in French;
• Be diplomatic and possess excellent customer service skills;
• Be a strong team player.

Assets

• Membership in the Ordre des technologues professionnels du Québec (OTPQ);
